The Third Recruit Battalion Complex and Marine Barracks at Parris Island project, built for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast, included the new construction of a three-story 415,000 square foot military complex located in Parris Island, SC. The facility houses the Third Recruitment Battalion Headquarters, central mechanical plant, Recruit Drill Grinder, and living quarters for drill instructors and 2,100 recruits. The military complex was constructed on a foundation comprised of concrete piles with a precast structural frame. A brick veneer exterior and pre-engineered truss roof completed the construction. The project also features locker rooms, storage spaces, laundry facilities, and administrative offices in addition to a physical training circuit course with rubberized track and training stations. This project achieved Silver Certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Council for installing a structure mounted solar domestic hot water system and a photovoltaic energy system. The Third Recruit Battalion Complex and Marine Barracks at Parris Island project now provides a modern facility for combat readiness training.
