Sherwood Forest Elementary School

New Orleans, LA

Client: Louisiana Department of Education Recovery School District

Architect: Grace & Hebert

Project Summary

The Sherwood Forest Elementary School project, built for the Louisiana Department of Education Recovery School District, included the new construction of a three-story 108,780 square foot elementary school located in New Orleans, LA. The facility, now known as Einstein Charter School at Sherwood Forest, supports 996 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. The elementary school was constructed on a slab on grade concrete foundation with a steel structural frame. A metal panel and brick exterior and tapered insulation roof completed the construction. The project also features a fenced in playground and concrete space for outdoor activities, dedicated carpool lanes, tile-lined hallways to guide students, classrooms with integrated technologies and a gymnasium with a stage, custom floors, and pull out bleachers for seating. The elementary school achieved Silver Certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Council for new construction. Due to CORE's construction efforts, the Sherwood Forest Elementary School project now offers a state-of-the-art educational facility to the community after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
