The Arthur Ashe Charter Elementary School project, built for the Louisiana Department of Education Recovery School District, included the new construction of a 9,727-square foot elementary school located in New Orleans, LA. The facility houses five buildings and supports approximately 450 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Eight. The elementary school was constructed to replace Bienville Elementary School, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The project also featured classrooms, laboratories, business offices, a gymnasium, stage and media center, music and performance spaces, a library, and full kitchen. This project achieved Silver Certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design from the US Green Building Council for site development, optimized energy performance, the use of recycled and regionally produced materials, and lighting system design and controllability. Due to CORE's sustainable construction practices, the Arthur Ashe Charter Elementary School now provides an environmentally friendly educational facility for the community.
