The first of a two-phase project to increase safety at Lyon County schools will begin over Christmas break.
The Lyon County School Board on Tuesday approved a bid submitted by CORE Construction for $524,000 for the project. The project includes creating secure perimeters and single points of entry at East Valley, Riverview, Sutro and Silver Stage Elementary schools and Silver Stage Middle School. Christmas break is Dec. 25-Jan. 5.
The project was originally budgeted at $679,000. Board member Neal McIntyre said it is only the second time in his multi-year tenure he remembers a project coming in under bid.
Approval of the second phase of the two-part project is set to go before the board at its Feb. 27 meeting. That project will address safety concerns at the district’s other elementary and intermediate schools, with work set to be done over the summer.
