CORE in the News: New TMFPD fire station opens in South Meadows in Reno

The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) celebrated the opening of a new fire station in the South Meadows area near Foothill Road on Saturday, July 21.

The station will be providing fire and rescue services to the southern Truckee Meadows region.

Station 14 replaces a 30-year-old facility that closed in June, and is the third TMFPD station to be built in the last six years.

“The previous station had outlived its useful life,” said Fire Chief Charles Moore. “In fact, the equipment bays would flood during major storm events, and firefighters had to go outside to get their gear and equipment. The new modern station will provide a better strategic location for our firefighters to operate from,” he said.

The 10,000 square foot fire station was operational on June 11 at a cost of $5.4 million. Currently, the station will house four firefighters and was built to accommodate growth and additional firefighting staff.
