BULLHEAD CITY — The Colorado River Union High School District will break ground Wednesday morning on the new $32.5 million fieldhouse approved by voters last November.
The 9 a.m. ceremony is open to the public at the far southwest end of the Bullhead Parkway, just past the Mohave Crossroads shopping center.
Construction is expected to begin in early to mid-November and take about 14 months. Once additional interior work and landscaping is completed, the fieldhouse should receive a certificate of occupancy and be dedicated by the spring of 2019.
Much of the structure is expected to be pre-engineered offsite to hold down costs. The general contractor, CORE Construction of Phoenix, is designated as a construction manager at risk, meaning it is responsible for cost overruns. If costs are below budget, there are incentives for CORE while the district and taxpayers will share any savings.
CORE has advertised for, and met with, local businesses to pre-qualify as subcontractors eligible to bid on the project. The CRUHSD board previously instructed CORE to use as many qualified subcontractors as possible from the Tri-state.
