The $13 million project’s groundbreaking ceremony took place Wednesday at 1701 Old Pondella Road — behind the Outback Steakhouse and Dunkin’ locations fronting Pine Island Road, just east of the Wawa off Del Prado Boulevard.

Continental Properties purchased the lot for $975,000.

The 60,000-square foot hotel will have a pool, a workout room, meeting rooms and other amenities. CORE Construction of Sarasota will manage the project, with Honc Industries doing pre-site work.
